Options for Metal Roofs

A metal roof is a roofing system made using metal panels, tiles, or pieces. It is a fairly broad term and can be used to describe roofs made of various types of metals. The four main types of metals that we offer include:

A more affordable metal roofing option that is known for its lightweight and durability. This material is highly resistant to corrosion and can withstand extreme weather conditions without becoming damaged. Aluminum roofing is also a great option for properties in areas with high temperatures, as it reflects heat and can help to keep the interior of the property cool. However, aluminum may not be the best option for properties in areas with heavy snowfall, as it is not as strong as other metal roofing materials.
Another high-end metal roofing material that is known for its durability and resistance to corrosion. This material is a great option for properties in coastal areas, as it is highly resistant to salt spray and other forms of weathering. Zinc roofing is also a great option for properties with flat or low-sloped roofs, as it can be installed in a standing seam configuration that is highly resistant to water infiltration. However, like copper, zinc is also quite expensive and may not be the best option for those on a tight budget.
Standing seam roofing is a great option for those looking for a more modern look in which the roofing panels are attached to the roof deck using hidden fasteners. Though it is more difficult and costly to install, it provides a more sleek and elegant look.
This method of installation is a more traditional and economical option, in which the roofing panels are attached to the roof deck using visible fasteners making it less expensive and easier to install.
Residential and commercial metal roofing generally comes in five different thicknesses, 20, 22, 24, 26, or 29 gauge, with 20 gauge being the thickest and 29 gauge being the thinnest. However, due to the noticeable flimsiness of a 29 gauge, and the minimal price difference to upgrade to a 26 gauge, we don’t recommend the 29 gauge at all. However, since the cost difference between a 24 and 26 gauge is more significant, there are times when one will be more appropriate than the other. However, if you reside in areas with a lot of snowfall, hail, or high winds, despite its cost increase, the 24 gauge will be a better choice to go with than the 26 gauge counterpart. Additionally, if you are going to go with a standing seam installation method, you will typically be limited to be only able to use either 24 or 26 gauge.

Metal roofing is considered to be one of the most durable, long-lasting, and energy-efficient roofing systems on the market for your roof replacement. Depending on the type of metal you choose, these roofs are also resistant to rust and corrosion, which makes them a great choice for coastal environments or areas of high humidity. They have the highest rating for both class 4 hail impact resistance rating and a class A fire protection rating, while also being able to withstand hurricane-force winds of up to around 140 mph. Likewise, unlike with other roofing materials, metal will never chip or crack.

These roofs have also been shown to have a very good return on investment and can considerably increase a home’s value. In addition to that, they are also extremely energy efficient and can help reduce heating and cooling costs.

The average lifespan of a metal roof is between 40-60 years, which will save you money and hassle over the long term. When compared to other materials like asphalt or tile, metal can last two to three times longer. For many homeowners, a metal roof can be considered a “one and done” solution that they won’t have to think about replacing in the future.

The metals come in a variety of colors making it easy to fit your project. They are also typically finished with a baked-on paint finish to add for further protection against all the elements.

Metal has many benefits and is a great option for your next project, but it is important to choose a roofing company that has the necessary skills in working with this material.
